Katherine N. Smith-Nunnally, originally from Trenton , NJ , earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and African American Studies in 1999 and her Master Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Organizational Management at Seton Hall (May 2006). Through out her educational career, Katherine has remained invested in service to students and the Greater Newark Community.
Her dedication to community and improving the lives of those who are educationally and economically disadvantaged is evident based on her involvements. She conducts the Kuumba Habla (Creativity Speaks) Writing Workshops; facilitates sessions on topics of interest to youth in order to engage and empower them to make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of others; facilitates workshops entitled The Image of Women of African Descent, developed and conducts a Rites of Passage Program for teenage girls; served as a New Jersey Community Scholar and AmeriCorps Volunteer; and completed the community service-oriented College Leadership New Jersey Program. Katherine was named Woman of the Year by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority 2006 and is an alumni of the CREST CDC Empowered Leaders Program.
She resides in Newark, New Jersey and is the proud wife of Talib and mother Makeda and Zaria.
